I don't have nearly as much Knott's Berry Farm stuff as I have Disney, but I have picked up a few odds and ends. This usually happens when I'm looking through an antique mall or thrift shop and don't find any Disneyland or Walt Disney World stuff, but I do spot sonething from Knott's. If there were Disney stuff, I probably wouldn't buy the Knott's stuff, but you hate to waste a whole trip.
That's probably how I got this item. I say "probably" because I really don't remember buying it or where I got it from. You see, not only is it a Knott's item, its a plate, and I usually pass those by. However, here ya go:
Its about 7 1/4 inches in diameter with lots of gold!
The main thing that it has going for it is that it shows the Ghost Town and Calico Railroad, which is always cool. I also like the little historical blurb on the back. I have no idea when it was made, other than it had to be after 1952 (and probably a lot after). All in all, its not bad, its just not super great.
Still, I'll hang onto it. It's a nice testiment to not giving up on a dry run.

Stu, I especially loved going to antique malls before the internet. Now, there aren't as many nice things, as folks are now selling their good stuff on eBay. But, I do still like hunting for treasure and seeing some cool things from the past - like this nice plate. Thank you for sharing your treasure!

DeleteI agree that eBay had made finding things "in the wild" tough. There's stuff out there, but even if you find it, they've looked it up and usually have full retail on it. Sigh...

ReplyDeleteStu, I'm like you, I generally pass by collector plates. They're heavy and fragile, and most are kind of bad. But I DO have some! Inevitably a few seem to sneak in there.
ReplyDeleteI like this one because it is a tribute to the Knott's trains. I wonder when it was issue? It kind of looks older, and the reference to how the train is "now making Ghost Town runs" makes it sound like it might be from the 1950s. Pretty cool!
I was kind of thinking the same thing, but I am FAR FAR from an expert on Knott's stuff!
DeleteI have a couple of other plates, plus a few of the common trays from Disneyland and WDW. I can't get too excited about them, but I can't pass them by either, lol.
Ooooh, I REALLY like this plate! The wide band of gold trim is especially nice. I agree with Major, this could very well be from the 50's. I have never seen one of these before. Congratulations on this cool find, Stu!
