Well, a couple of weeks ago I featured my Johnny Lightning Monkeemobile. I mentioned that it was a later run, since it does not have the logo, which Playing Mantis did not have the rights to. They found this fact out after the first run of cars (I'm sure lawyers were involved).
I published it, and soon my old friend and fellow (much more popular) blogger Major Pepperidge chimed in and asked about how much the logo cars were. I admitted that I wasn't sure. He added that I needed one...bad. Now I know how much they are because I went on eBay and looked. And...
Yep, I bought one. It was 50 bucks and I said no. Then they reduced it to 30 (40 with shipping) and well...a deal's a deal!
Anyway it was the only one on there at the time, so I bought it.
All because of Major making me go look.
Thanks, man!
Now I just have to decide if I'm going to open it...
Until next time, keep searching for treasure!
Gotta be careful with that peer pressure, Stu. One time the Major almost talked me into starting my own blog!
ReplyDeleteI remember talking with you about that!
DeleteYeah, the ironic part is I'm an elementary school counselor, lol!
Stu, I'm enjoying your posts! I grew up playing with one of my [male] cousins - with all his Hot Wheels and orange race track and loops - and have lots of good memories of all his cool cars.
ReplyDeleteThat Major sure IS a bad influence, isn't he?! I never ever commented on any other blog and had ZERO interest in blogs. UNTIL I stumbled on GDB...and now looked at how hooked I am. And I'm enjoying yours, too!
My two cents: DON'T open it!
Let me be the first [70 minutes early) to wish you a Happy Birthday, Stu! I hope you get all the toys you wished for!
Hey, Stu, I just noticed that your blog is on "California" time. Aren't you the same as me - Central time?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue! I'm glad you're emjoying it! I've got to figure out how to get Blogger to email me when people comment!
DeleteYep, I'm in Dallas!
Hey, hey, they're not Monkeeing around with all that cool detail!
ReplyDelete(I'm so bummed that Mike and Micky are coming near me on the farewell tour but the tickets were just too much for my budget.)
I saw them years ago at The Texas Rangers ballpark. They were all four there (plus some other musicians). It was actually after the baseball game! I have no idea who won, I was there for the music!
DeleteEveryone should have their own blog by the end of 2021! Stu, I’m glad you got the Monkeemobile with the official logo, there is no doubt in my mind that you will feel a general contentment, a peace of mind that was missing before. As for thinking about opening the package… let’s not get crazy. You need the thing to be as MIP as possible. In fact you should only handle it while wearing white gloves, in a 100% nitrogen atmosphere (you’re on your own). Melissa, there have been three bands that I would love to see live, all coming to this area in the next month or two, and the ticket prices have been astronomical. My buddy and I have been reminiscing about the days when you could go to a club and see 3 bands for $12.
ReplyDeleteMajor, I have a story that relates to the "seeing bands in a club thing." Here goes:
DeleteIn the early 80s my friend and I were wandering around Lower Greenville (at the time a very hip neighborhood in Dallas). We were pretty bored and my friend spotted a name on a marque that he knew. It was at a club called Tango (There were frogs on the roof...another story for another day). I said sure, why not, and we plunked down our five bucks each cover charge and walked into the album release party for Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Texas Flood," his first album! Yep, I was there. All by chance. For five bucks. I still have the stub!
